Impact: retention of old versions and trashbin files will be ajusted

The retention period of “deleted” files in the recycle bin and old versions in GWDG ownCloud has not been limited since the start of the service. Our observations show that these very old file versions are practically never accessed. In order to not unnecessarily keep “data garbage”, we have now decided to adjust these retention periods.

On March 12 and 13, 2022, we will gradually go from “unlimited” to 30 days. With this measure, we expect to be able to release a portion of the storage space currently in use. This transition will occur outside of normal usage hours and will be staggered to spread the load on the system.

We are also preparing for the move of several GWDG storage systems on April 2nd and 3rd 2022. We hope for your understanding for this step.
