Impact: Rejection of e-mails with attached ZIP files

The e-mail filters of the GWDG’s e-mail service are being set more restrictively due to a special threat situation. For all e-mail domains for which e-mails with potentially dangerous attachments have been rejected so far, e-mails containing ZIP files as attachments will now also be temporarily rejected.

This measure is being taken because e-mails with encrypted ZIP archives containing malware are currently being sent on a large scale and widely distributed. In some cases, damage has already been caused because the attachments were not recognised as malicious and opened in time.

We ask for your understanding for the short-term restriction, which we consider necessary to avert an acute danger and which was also requested by particularly affected user institutions.
