GWDG at the 3rd night of science on 21 january 2017

ndw2017-enOn Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 17:00 to 24:00, the Göttingen Campus will once again open its doors to visitors of all ages on the 3rd night of science and present itself with numerous actions to the general public.

Science slams, lectures, join-in activities, guided tours, workshops, films, experiments and much more provide up-close insights into the diverse and exciting world of science. In more than 320 events at more than 20 locations throughout Göttingen, the participating institutions make research understandable and tangible to all age groups and interest groups. Admission to all events of the night of knowledge is free; all venues are connected by a free bus shuttle.

The GWDG is again present and will show in the foyer of the Faculty of Physics, Friedrich-Hund-Platz 1, how continuous monitoring of the performance of important GWDG services is carried out with measurement computers. In an isolated environment, interested visitors can simulate malfunctions and everyday internet attacks and observe their effects. The long-standing custos of GWDG´s Computer Museum, Manfred Eyßell, will give a lecture on the topics of Heinz Billing, the builder of the „Göttinger Rechenmaschinen“ in the 1950s, who recently died at the age of 102 years, from 19:30 to 20:30 in lecture hall 008 in the Central Lecture Hall Building (ZHG).
