On Thursday, 31 March 2022, a relocation of one of the GWDG’s central mass storage systems (NetApp MetroCluster) to the new data centre at Burckhardtweg will take place from 08:00 in the morning. Although the relocation will be conducted online without interrupting operations, we are informing you here because this is a core component of the GWDG mass storage infrastructure on which many important services depend.

The relocation can be conducted without downtime as the overall system consists of two redundant parts, only one of which needs to be relocated. Before and after the relocation, there will be a short failover / giveback of the mass storage services, which will be largely transparent for clients. There may be briefly increased latencies when accessing the mass storage. No adverse effects are to be expected for users, provided no unexpected problems occur.
