In order to improve security and establish compatibility with future Microsoft security patches for the Windows operating system, the CIFS/SMB security settings for the following institute shares will be adjusted in the maintenance window on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m:

\\\wfs-sozial.top.gwdg.de\<Institute abbreviation>-all$

The changes will affect the following faculties: Geoscience and Geography, Law, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics and Social Sciences.

For current operating systems the changes will be transparent. Access problems occasionally observed after the changes can usually be resolved by a reboot of the respective user system.

For old operating systems that are no longer under support, the new security settings may result in a loss of access to the network shares.
